For many of us the idea of driving means liberation and independence. Therefore, knowing when it is time for us to stop may take the help of others.  While advanced age alone is not a factor of poor driving, age does play its role. Advanced age does increase the risk for decline in areas such as eyesight, reaction time, memory, and physical mobility. All of which are essential skills for the safe driver.

Aging into older adulthood, people acquire a decreased thirst sensation. Meaning the amount of water they desire, is less than the amount of water they require to be hydrated. Being hydrated is a temporary state, staying hydrated takes a greater level of watchfulness.  This watchfulness may become diminished as one graduates into older adulthood. Coming with it a slew of other complications ranging from medication side effects to lack physical mobility.

It is not fully understood how relationships affect our overall well-being. However, it is suggested that we can reduce the risks of cognitive decline if we maintain close social relationships. Additionally, it is highly suggested that people have a higher risk of developing cognitive impairment such as dementia if they live isolated and alone.
